The work presents several actions Davide has performed with microphones. These actions reflect on the materiality of the sound devices and explore their corporeal aspects, as sounding bodies that he interacts with in unexpected ways. The actions are developed with a direct dramaturgy, each ending with the death of the microphone and consequent absence of sound. Examples of actions include burning a microphone, leaving it on the rail tracks, launching it into the air with a firework, hitting it with a slingshot, … Davide’s actions explore the ephemeral nature of corporeal existence through the presence, absence, and disappearance of sound as a metaphor for life and death.

ALL BODIES END IN SILENCE

THE BLOWS FROM OUTSIDE
A MICROPHONE IS TREATED WITH HOT WAX DROPS AND EVENTUALLY SET ON FIRE…
the mic is exposed
no armor to wear
facing the world
a punch in the chest
each touch is a mark
each flame is a trace
its body a map that accumulates
the sound it makes
a desperate cry
feeling all those blows
until when it dies

FIRE FROM WITHIN
MORE IMAGES HERE
A selection of firecrackers, fire fountains and fireworks are light up from within a drum set.
The explosions grow up to the point where they cannot be contained anymore.
The drum set gets on fire and burns down.
The piece reflects on the dramatic end of a body (drum set) that has been fed with fear and doubts about realizing his/her right to self-empowerment and freedom.
EXAGGERATED FOOTSTEPS
This is me walking through different rooms of the same building. I compare the acoustic response of each room by means of a pair of metal plates that I attached to the sole of my shoes.
IN THE BLINK OF AN EAR
The video sees me triggering the acoustic response of an empty building by hitting the wall with a stick. To emphasize the hit, I adopted the following visual association: silence=black / sound=light. The title of the video is a clear reference to that.
BEYOND THE YELLOW LINE
A microphone is physically exposed to the consequences of breaking the distance limit that conventionally separates it from the subject of the recording. The video is a metaphor about the search for interaction and confrontation.
UNDER THE BRIDGE
Passages under bridges have always been interesting places for acoustic tests. In this video, the resonance of a concrete tunnel is triggered by the explosion of a series of firecrackers.

A Voice Wanders In Dispersion Around The City
In the video, I use my voice as an existential strategy that allows me to survive in a city that I don’t recognize as mine. Led by the acoustics of the places that I encounter in my wandering, I end up silent in an empty building. My voice has the double function of 1) making me discovering the acoustic response of the city and 2) sustaining my own presence which is already undermined by the impact with the metropolis.
Resonant Frequency
The tuning of the voice on a certain frequency hits the metal plates of the grid and set them in motion.
