By listening to chants recorded by an unknown supporter at the Atalanta–AC Milan match on September 6, 1989, Stefano Pozzoni — then a member of the Brigate Rossonere, one of AC Milan’s ultras groups — revisits the origins and meanings of selected chants used by AC Milan supporters. His account offers insight into the relationship between chanting practices, social composition, and the habitus of AC Milan’s ultras groups in the late 1980s.

This work continues my research on the use of sound in football supporters culture, a topic I began exploring in the early 2000s by following and participating with my hometown ultras group, Brescia 1911.
