Rehearsal for the Demo

Rehersal For the Demo consists of five audio recordings of the chant rehearsal held in preparation for the demonstration at the Rackowiecka prison in Warsaw on the 2nd July 2016. The demonstration was organized in solidarity with the three Warsaw anarchists arrested on the night of May 23rd on charges of an alleged arson attempt of a police vehicle.

Up In The Valley

The audio work presents some of the traditional oral chants that I recorded in Presegno (ValSabbia, Brescia, Italy) during the night of San Lorenzo (aka “the night of the shooting stars”), 10 august 2013.

What emerges from the recordings is the vital energy of the voices that take part in the singing. The voices communicate a strong feeling of togetherness and collective excitement. Singing is an expression of joy that enhances social cohesion and contributes to the formation of a certain atmosphere of shared enthusiasm and self empowerment.

In order to make the chants accessible to a larger audience, I’ve decided to translate them from local dialect to english. The chants cover essential themes such as love, pain, death, desire, and hunger. All primary feelings that are fundamental to every human being.

Back to Back With Paolo

The audio work documents the encounter between me and Paolo, two amateur singers that accidentally meet on the street at night time. After a short introduction, the encounter turns into a back to back chanting battle. The street becomes the stage of a spontaneous performance. The chants, a way to discover each other.

Magnifying My Sphere of Power

Magnifying My Sphere of Power is an audio work where I sing and play drums along with a selection of my favourite hard core punk songs.

Based on my personal everyday-life musicking* activities, the project amplifies the power of music as an emotional inciter, an agitator that animates physical energy and self presence.

With this work I want to emphasize the role of the listener as a responsive agent that plays a central role in the musical process, and more generally reflect on what music listening means in terms of reconstruction of meaning (appropriation) and activation of personal agency (participation).

Neighbours

This is me singing along with the music that comes from my neighbour’s flat. Rather than ask them to STOP I preferred to GET ALONG. In this case NEGOTIATING was much more fun than ARGUING!

I Am Here With You

How can you sing together with your best friend if he is far away from you? In the audio work “I Am Here With You”, I sing along with the recorded voice of my friend Peter. So we are now together again.

Christmas at the Nursing Home

On Christmas afternoon, a music band plays live at the nursing home of a small town in northern Italy. During the performance, the band invites some of the residents to go on stage and sing to the microphone. What makes the residents’ voices unique is their emotional involvement and desire to participate, regardless of any musical compentence.

This Kind of Hugs

What would a 8 years old boy play to his girlfriend? Two of the sweetest compositions you have ever heard… Like cuddling in bed and falling asleep.

(Fail We May) Sail We Must

The work consists of two recordings of music classes. Musicians learn new compositions and practice them over and over until they get them and perform them well. Their training encourages to see failure and achievement as part of the same growth process. There’s no mistake you can’t learn from.

Don’t you dare to go under
Don’t let them steal your thunder”
